Please help...computer illiterate..had a company come out and install new hard drive in comp.?

Prior to hard drive going out I had volume working from my computer and speakers...since the new one was installed I have not had any volume at all. Could this be because I had to wait for my Windows system recovery & supplimental recovery software that is being sent to me ....would this have anything to do w/not having any volume?
