Do you think that Tom Cruise being down and out for a while was actually part of a Hollywood conspiracy?

Was speculating with my sis as to why Tom Cruise was out of the industry for so long,given that Valkryie possibly looks like his comeback .My sister suggested that studios (since it seemed like things went sour for him after his studio partnership break-up) in Hollywood conspired such that Tom Cruise wouldnt have any movies for a while, and mayb the studios were also uncomfortable with his Scientology beliefs.I think it was just the Oprah show incident's negative publicity, and a string of flops (MI-3/Movie with Jamie Foxx/the 2 spielberg movies).She also thinks he was one of the guys at the top,in the league of George Clooney/Brad Pitt/etc.I just never thought he fit in that league, more along Bruce Willis.Is my sis wrong or have I got it all wrong?
