Is everyone getting so wound up by Gordon Browns comments hypocrisy?

I was watching it on the news earlier. It wasn't good for him to call that woman a bigot however I do think that it has been blown out of proportion. The first thing to realise is that this wasn't said to her face it was said when they were driving off in the car and despite GB leaving the microphone on it was a private conversation between peers. Also he was letting off steam after what would have been a stressful day for him. I find it Hypocritical that people condemn him for something that people do in everyday life. Unfortunately people do talk behind peoples backs and its not very nice but its human nature. And its something I chose not to worry about it. Also these people interviewing the Labour voter thought it okay to talk behind his back yet thought it was okay. I just think that we should leave him alone on this occasion
