Can paying off my government student loan raise my credit score?

I have NO credit. I can't seem to get a credit card, even when I had two jobs I couldn't even get a SECURED credit card. Getting a co-signer is out of the question. I was thinking of paying back my student loan early with the hopes that it would give me a credit score of some sort. Does anyone have any experience with this?
