Is it healthy to give my cat mineral oil everyday?

My cat is 13 years old and had to have an enema about a month or two ago and I cannot afford to do this every month, so I have been giving him mineral oil and bran, which seem to have helped him stay regular. My vet told me that it was fine but he/she has been wrong before, does anyone know if it is safe to continue doing this?
