Is the bible rated r?

Should the bible and bible shows be rated r? My son likes to watch donkey ollie, a bible-story based cartoon on a christian sponsored channel. I was watching it with him and realized that the stories in the bible are more gruesome than anything I could find on cartoon network etc. Normally christian parents would shelter their kids from stories like these, so why is the bible ok?
