I am moving in my buddies apartment and have to do a credit check to get on the lease, but I have bad credit?

My friend has been living in his apartment for over a year. He has good credit and has never missed a payment. He wants to save money, so he can put a down payment on a Condo in 2 years, so he offered to allow me to move in and pay half, which would be $450 rent for the both of us? Their is no extra fee to have someone else on the lease. They said the credit check was slandered procedure along with a background check. Will my bad credit effect me from getting on the lease.
