Does anyone know anything about Acer?

I need a laptop, and I have noticed that a company called Acer seems to produce cheap laptops. Does anyone know anything about this company? I hadn't even heard of Acer until recently. I am always a little weary of weird companies that seem to sell products way cheaper than other competitors.
